Contrary to popular belief, not all car seats are created equally. If you’re interested in the Chicco Keyfit 30 but are unsure of whether or not it’s worth purchasing, continue reading to discover the aspects which I loved about it, as well as some of the aspects which I thought could be improved apon. At the end of my review you’ll also find a comparison between the Chico Keyfit 30 and a similarly priced car seat.
1. Comes with a removable insert which is specifically designed for new borns
When I was shopping around for a car seat, one feature that stood out with this particular model is that it came with a removable insert which is designed to give new born babies extra protection so that they won’t slide around in their car seat, when you’re driving from a to b.
2. It’s narrower than many other car seats on the market
I have a smaller car and at first had trouble finding a car seat which would comfortably fit into the back seat of my car. Thankfully, this particular model isn’t oversized or bulky, like many of the other car seats I looked at and so it easily fits into the back of my little car.
3. You can adjust the harness with one hand
When I saw that it had a five point adjustable harness I was a little intimidated, I’m not going to lie however, after reading the instructions I discovered that I could adjust the harness with just one hand. Which is a lifesaver when you’re carrying a diaper bag and smart phone in one hand and would prefer to adjust your baby’s harness without having to put your bag and smart phone down, believe me!
4. Looks incredibly comfortable
Whilst some car seats look stiff and uncomfortable this model is lined with foam which moulds to your baby’s body shape. Don’t take my word for it though, take my son’s, as he normally falls asleep within minutes of being placed into his car seat.
5. Easy to install
If the thought of installing a car seat, makes you a little nervous, you’re not alone. One of the reasons why I chose this particular car seat is that you can install it in seconds. It also boasts a simple latch which you can pull to ensure that your car seat is secure. As an added bonus, it also features a bubble indicator system which makes leveling your car seat a breeze.
If you live in a hot climate, you might need to remove some of the padding
As this model contains lots of padding and memory foam, if your baby has a tendency to overheat and becomes restless when it’s hot you might need to remove some of your car seat’s padding. I live in a temperate climate and didn’t have any issues until I took my son to visit his grandparents in Texas. However, this issue was easily resolved as once I removed some of the padding and took his blanket off he was back to his usual giggly self again.
The Chico Keyfit 30 vs. the Britax B-Safe:
How does the Chico Keyfit 30 compare to a similarly priced car seat? Firstly, both the Chico Keyfit 30 car seat and the Britax B-Safe car seat, boast modern, five point safety harnesses. However, the Britax B-Safe lacks many of the additional features which the Chico Keyfit 30 offers.
As examples, as I mentioned earlier, the Chico Keyfit 30 boasts a comfortable, memory foam base, which moulds to your baby’s body and a bubble indicator system, which helps you take the guess work out of fitting your car seat, whilst the Britax B-Safe lacks both of these handy features. So if you’re looking for a car seat which offers incredible value for your money, I’d definitely recommend purchasing the Chico Keyfit 30 car seat over the Britax B-Safe car seat.
So what are you waiting for? If you’re looking for a thoroughly modern car seat which offers the latest in safety features, you can’t go wrong choosing to purchase the Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat. Before I purchased my own, I wondered whether it would live up to it’s hype, as the brochure I read claimed that it was the number one car seat in America. After using it for six months, I can see why it’s so popular!
