Baby Jogger City Select Review

Baby Jogger City Select Review

I had been using my 4-year-old’s old stroller for my 10 month old baby when I decided to buy a double stroller, the Baby Jogger City Select. I’m the type of person who uses things until they start falling apart. And when they do fall apart, I’d do my very best to fix them before I give up and buy a new one – this goes with my shoes, my phone, and just about everything I have. But one incident made me want to buy a double stroller without thinking twice.

I was carrying my baby in my arms with my 4-year-old in tow as we were on our way to dinner. All of a sudden, my 4-year-old started crying. He was so exhausted from his first day of school that he just wanted to lie down in the middle of the mall! And when he started screaming it was a nightmare!

So I had to rent a double stroller for the night and it solved everything! As I had dinner with my family, both my kids were sleeping soundly beside me. Who knew that I could have a social life and take care of my kids at the same time? So I decided right then and there to buy one for me and my boys.

The best double stroller that I found was the Baby Jogger City Select – a little on the expensive side but it was, hands down, the very best among the choices at the store. And let me tell you this – my life as a young mom has been so much easier with its arrival.

Why I Like It

I hate spending! I’ve always enjoyed doing everything on my own and when I couldn’t, I bought the cheapest things available. I would rather spend money on good food and memorable experiences rather than buying things. So it came as a big surprise for my husband when he saw me buying this stroller. It’s a complete splurge for me so I expected a lot from this investment.

And to tell you the truth, it exceeded my expectations. I love the fact that I can convert it from a single stroller to a double stroller in minutes! I use the front seat for my baby as we walk around the neighborhood, and attach the rear seat when my older son arrives from school. There are 16 possible configurations – the seats can face front, face me, face each other, have the rear seat higher or lower, and so many other positions.

I also love the canopy – it has a magnetic lock rather than a velcro closing. My old stroller used velcro and it prevented me from checking up on my baby ’cause I feared that I would wake him up, so this magnetic lock feature is a breath of fresh air.

The handles are also adjustable – which means my 6’3″ husband can push this stroller around with comfort and ease. I’m only 5’7″ so after my husband uses it, I can easily adjust the handles to suit my height. It’s so easy and convenient.

What I Don’t Like About It

Well, as what I see from other double strollers, these things are heavy. But I really hoped this was an exception. For something so expensive, the least that they could do was make it easy for moms like me to lift it. It’s easy to fold but lifting and throwing it in the trunk of my car is difficult for me.

I also don’t like the fact that it’s complicated. I like things that are simple – you know, things that only have 2 or 3 parts and that’s it. This stroller has a lot of parts and accessories so it kind of gives me a headache sometimes when I have to use it as a single stroller and then a double stroller and then a single stroller again. I wish converting it was just easy – use it as single then double without having to put parts and taking them apart.

Compared to Joovy Too

This was actually the one I rented during the mall fiasco. So why didn’t I buy this model? Because of 2 things: The seats are shorter than the Baby Jogger. Though it says it has a maximum weight capacity of 55 lbs. per seat, the seat height is just too short that it reduces its capacity for long term use. My husband’s really tall so I know my kids will be taller than the average toddler – so seat height is really important for me.

And the other reason why I chose Baby Jogger is because of the basket. I need to have a lot of space for my things and my kids’ things. The basket in this Joovy stroller is small – and the worse part? When a child is sitting in the rear seat, his feet gets inside the basket! I mean, they’re practically useless!

So despite being more expensive, I chose the Baby Jogger because I knew I’d be really happy with it.

The Bottom Line

If you have 2 kids where one is older than the other, this double stroller is a fantastic option. It’s so versatile ’cause there are 16 different configurations so it’s like having 16 different strollers in one. It’s super sturdy, super easy to maneuver, easy to clean, and just plain safe and secure. I couldn’t ask for anything more. It’s absolutely money well spent.
